Gradings - my simplified grading scale is as follows:
Fine (Excellent) - new or near mint - like new condition
Near Fine (NF or Excellent-) like new, but with slight flaws or minor imperfections
VG+ - better than average, well kept, but with minor imperfections
VG (very good condition) "used, but not abused"
VG - as above, but shows slightly more wear or imperfections
G - (+ or -) good condition, well worn, but acceptable "read only" copy
F - fair - well used, any of: somewhat abused, incomplete, not intact or all of these
P - poor - really bad, but might retain some historical value
Hard cover (same as hardback)
Dust jacket or DJ (dust wrapper) – paper cover for hard cover book
Soft cover = trade paperback, usually always larger than a standard paperback (below)
Paperback = mass market, usually always in the 4 ¼” X 6 ¾” range
BCE - Book Club Edition (may vary in size or other aspect from store version)
